Tom Militello
Owner
Tom Militello has made Syracuse New York his home since moving from Utica New York in 1986 to attend Syracuse University. He lives in Onondaga Hill with Alyssa, his wife of 25 years, and their son Sam, who is attending SUNY Geneseo as a Finance major. They share their home with 4 rescued pets (a dog and 3 cats).
An avid fan of the outdoors, Tom has spent many years exploring beautiful upstate New York as a skier and mountain biker. A lifelong hockey fan, he finally started playing “old guy hockey” when his son took up the sport at 5 years old. He also helped with coaching early in his son’s hockey career.
Tom has been a financial advisor since 2009. He enjoyed his previous business working as a bicycle industry representative, helping small businesses across New York and Pennsylvania. During the financial downturn of 2008-2009, he decided to change careers. His decision to become a financial advisor was a logical step due to his personal success as a stock market investor. Other deciding factors were the opportunity to continue working to help small businesses, as well as spending more time with his family.
His financial industry career began with a large brokerage firm, after which he moved to a large insurance company/brokerage. He gathered valuable experience from 2 different perspectives within the same industry. After years of doing his own research, never settling for the industry’s status-quo products or practices, it was time for the next step. In 2021, he founded Adirondack Investment Strategies. As an independent advisor, he is happy to be working with United Planners Financial Services, a Limited Partnership based in Scottsdale Arizona that serves around 500 selectively chosen advisors from across the United States. This combination allows him to offer truly independent advice, and the best possible products and services to work in his clients’ best interests.

Sam Militello was born and raised in the Syracuse, New York area. He currently attends SUNY Geneseo, majoring in Finance. On campus, he works as a tour guide. He also takes part in the Student Managed Investment Fund, analyzing stocks for potential inclusion in the school's investment portfolio. He plays for both the Geneseo club hockey team and golf team, all while maintaining a 3.6 GPA.
Sam has played ice hockey since the age of 5, traveling the eastern United States extensively as a high-level youth hockey player. Among his memorable experiences, he got to play on the "Miracle" rink in Lake Placid, where the 1980 USA hockey team won a gold medal. This peak experience, in the heart of the Adirondack Mountains, helped to inspire the name of our firm.
Sam officially joined Adirondack Investment Strategies in June 2023. He has been an integral part of our firm, helping with the office design, as well as the firm's name, logo, and website design. He is currently responsible for several administrative duties as a Non-Registered Assistant under the supervision of his father, Tom Militello. He is looking forward to becoming a licensed financial advisor after he graduates in May 2027.
